In Berlin, you can find a „new“ indie co-working space called Saftladen that includes the teams Studio Fizbin of Machinen-Mensch and . These guys produced a fun game in the course of a jam called Happy Hockey that uses the HappyFunTimes multiplayer system by greggman. This lovely tool allows you to use mobile phones as controllers. Just setup a WiFi host and people in your network can join using the browser of their phone. On successful connection they get a player and can start playing whatever you thought at them.
Since this is obviously cool, we could not miss out testing it. I installed and setup Happy Hockey at the A MAZE. Johannesburg this year, but unfortunately it ended up to be a mess. It seems the only reason for this was that we had no internet at all and nobody of us had used a Mac before. However, this time I was at my machine and I must say: the offered Unity plugin is suuuuuper simple and we had the sample running in no time. The same goes for the rest of the prototype installation – the scripts are easy to read and reuse. After a couple of nightly minutes, we had a prototype running with HappyFunTimes
